Anime Ascendants Evolution Guide
How units become meta, and which starters you should stop feeding.
Evolution is the real power spike in Anime Ascendants. A base mythic can clear early story. The evolved form is what raids, legend stages, and infinite actually ask for. Kits change: AoE type, passives, placement value, sometimes the role. Sukuno is the example every account meets eventually. You do not summon Sukuno as a finished Secret on day one. You obtain Itadoki, then you evolve Itadoki into Sukuno, and the line-AoE kit is why that name sits at the top of most unit rankings. If you are still pouring duplicates into unevolved starters, you are paying for a dead end.
This page is the obtainment map plus the feeding rules. Pair it with best units when you need a current DPS order, and with events when a banner or raid shop is the only legal way to finish a line.
What evolution actually changes
Unevolved units keep their base targeting and a modest stat ladder. Evolved units often gain a new AoE shape, a new passive, or a shop-gated item that was the entire point of the raid. Shonks picking up full AoE on evolution is a mid-game example: the raw numbers were fine, the coverage is what moved the ranking. Sukuno’s line AoE is the late-game version of the same idea. You farm the materials because the kit after the evolve button is a different unit.
Materials come from a short list of places:
- Legend stages drop evolution items and crystal stones more reliably than story. Later acts on a legend map usually pay better guaranteed drops.
- Raids and raid shops sell or drop the event pieces (Seal of Sacrifice for Guts, act-specific Griffith parts, raid-exclusive units such as Yuto).
- Passes and events hand out units that already sit near the meta (Free Ren from the Mage Pass, Itochi from the Itochi event).
- Standard summons still matter because Orwin, Bolma, Hosoko, Goju, and Shonks have to exist in the index before you spend stones on them.
Crystal stones are the shared catalyst for many of these lines. Farm them on legend stages first. Challenges and the Merchant can add extras, but legend is the repeatable loop.
The Itadoki → Sukuno line
If you only evolve one unit this week, make it this one.
- Unlock and run the Cursed Academy legend stage. That is the Itadoki obtainment path.
- Raise Itadoki enough that the unit can survive the farm. You do not need a perfect trait yet.
- Collect the evolution items / crystal stones from the same legend acts. Later acts are the ones with the denser guaranteed drops—grind the hardest act you can clear, not Act 1 forever.
- Evolve Itadoki into Sukuno. The evolved kit is a line-AoE carry that shows up in raid and infinite conversations for a reason.
Itadoki is not a vendor trash unit while you wait. Final Vessel / flashback variants can still be meta in their own right. The point is the destination: Sukuno is obtained by evolving Itadoki, not by hoping the 50-gem banner prints the EVO name.
Related JJK legend content (four-act Sukuna stages, flashback evolutions) follows the same pattern: the legend map is the item source, the evolve button is the spike. Check events if a flashback shop is currently the cheaper stone source.
Where the rest of the meta actually comes from
Not every S-tier name is a summon. Stop expecting the standard banner to print the whole roster.
| Unit | How you get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sukuno | Evolve Itadoki | Cursed Academy legend stage is the Itadoki farm |
| Itadoki | Cursed Academy legend stage | Evolution target, not a bench unit |
| Yuto | Raids | Raid DPS; do not wait for a story drop |
| Itochi | Itochi event | Event-gated; watch the events page |
| Free Ren | Mage Pass | Strong free / pass unit with an EVO line |
| Hosoko | Summons | Mythic you can actually pull |
| Goju | Summons | DPS / support hybrid; do not put Ascendant on the support kit |
| Shonks | Summons | Evolution adds the full-AoE coverage |
| Orwin | Summons | Support you keep forever |
| Bolma | Summons | Farm slot; Senko is the backup |
| Guts | Banner + Radi Shop item | Evo item costs 250 Seal of Sacrifice |
| Griffith | Banner + raid item | Griffith item from Berserk Raid Act 5 |
| Skeleton Knight | Berserk Raid Act 4 / 5 | Raid drop, not a 50-gem unit |
Guts and Griffith are the current example of a banner-plus-raid-shop pair. You pull the base unit from the banner, then you finish the evolve with a shop item. Guts uses the Radi Shop: 250 Seal of Sacrifice. Skeleton Knight is the raid drop from Berserk Raid Act 4/5, which is a different obtainment than the banner pair. Do not walk into that raid on a day-one story squad—the story mode page is the unlock and routing guide. Clear story, pick up a farm and a real carry, then spend Seals.
Sand MadMan is the mid-tier version of the same lesson: Sand Village legend stage, several evo parts, low drop chance. Easy requirements on paper, still a farm. Only start that line if you need the coverage, not because the name is on a list.
Who you should stop feeding
Unevolved starters eat the same crystal stones, the same duplicates, and the same trait tokens as a future Sukuno. They do not pay it back.
Park these: Niruto Kid, Goko, Luffo. They are the D-row names that show up in the first hour because the banner is generous with nostalgia. They have no evolution ceiling worth the feed. If they carried a tutorial wave, that job is done.
Limit these: Other C-row story fillers (Saske Kid, Tanji, Genas, and similar). Use them to not leak a chapter, then replace them the moment a mythic or a legend-stage unit lands.
Invest here instead: One farm (Bolma or Senko), one support (Orwin), one evolution target (Itadoki toward Sukuno, or the current event unit if events say the window is closing). Confirm the live order on best units and the units tier list before you dump stones into a third DPS.
A useful filter: if a unit has no evolution path, it needs a support or farm job to stay in the loadout. Orwin and Bolma pass that filter. Niruto Kid does not.
Feeding order when stones are scarce
- Evolve the unit that changes your AoE or raid job (Itadoki → Sukuno is the default).
- Finish the event / raid shop item if the banner unit is already in the index (Guts at 250 Seals, Griffith from Act 5).
- Raise the farm and the support so the evolved carry can actually be upgraded in a match.
- Only then spend leftover stones on a second DPS such as Hosoko, Goju, or Shonks.
- Leave trait hunting for after the evolve. A Golden Bolma is worth tokens. A Strong I Niruto Kid is not. Use how to reroll traits once the unit is the one you will still be placing next month.
If you are short on crystal stones, go back to legend stages, not to the 50-gem banner. Summons create the base unit. Legend stages create the evolved unit. Mixing those two loops is how accounts go broke with a pretty index and no raid clear.
The Guides Hub and Getting Started pages still apply: 16-player online servers, desktop and mobile, story first, raids for tokens. Evolution sits on top of that route. It does not replace it.
Farm the legend stage, pay the crystal cost, and leave Niruto Kid on the bench. Evolution is the line between a cute starter and a raid-ready carry, and Sukuno is what that line looks like when you actually press the button.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, traits, summons, and story progress.
How do I get Sukuno?
Obtain Itadoki from the Cursed Academy legend stage, farm the evolution items and crystal stones from those acts, then evolve Itadoki into Sukuno. You do not pull finished Sukuno as a standard day-one summon.
Where do evolution items drop?
Legend stages are the main farm for evo items and crystal stones. Raids and raid shops cover event pieces (Guts, Griffith, Skeleton Knight). Some units come from passes or time-limited events instead.
Should I still upgrade Niruto Kid, Goko, or Luffo?
No. They are unevolved starters with no ceiling. Use them to not fail a tutorial wave, then stop feeding them. Put the stones into an evolution line.
How do I evolve Guts?
Pull Guts from the banner, then buy the evolution item in the Radi Shop for 250 Seal of Sacrifice. Griffith’s item comes from Berserk Raid Act 5. Skeleton Knight drops from Berserk Raid Act 4/5.
Is Free Ren worth building?
Yes. Free Ren comes from the Mage Pass and has an EVO line, which is exactly the filter this page uses. Prefer pass and legend-stage units over unevolved fillers.
Yuto and Itochi are not in my summons. Did I get unlucky?
Not necessarily. Yuto is a raid obtain. Itochi is an event obtain. Check events and run raids instead of rolling the 50-gem banner for names that are not in that pool.
